Terms of Service
Last updated: 24 July 2026
These terms govern your use of the Iapetus desktop application and the services at iapetus.dev, operated by Demec ("we"). By creating an account or using Iapetus you agree to them. During the beta, the Beta Terms also apply.
1. The service
Iapetus is a desktop application for building, running, and fault-testing distributed environments on your own hardware, together with the licensing and account services on this site. The software runs locally; we do not host your environments.
2. Your account
Registration requires accurate details and a verified email address. You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe and for activity under your account. One person per account; team plans license seats explicitly.
3. Licenses
Plans grant a subscription license to use the software — a right to use, not a sale of the software. Each plan unlocks the features and limits published on the pricing page. Licenses are verified offline by the app and are personal to you (or to the seats your plan covers): don't share license keys beyond your licensed seats, and don't circumvent or tamper with the license mechanism except where the law expressly permits it.
4. Acceptable use
Use Iapetus lawfully and against systems you are authorized to test. Don't abuse the iapetus.dev APIs (e.g. bulk account creation or attempts to disrupt the licensing service). Fault injection is for your own environments — Iapetus runs on your hardware and gives you no capability against anyone else's.
5. Payments and refunds
During the beta, no payment is taken. When paid plans launch, they will be sold at the published prices — flat subscription pricing, no usage metering — through a merchant-of-record payment provider, with a 14-day refund policy on first purchase. If we ever raise a price, existing subscribers keep their price for at least 12 months from the change.
6. Your content, our software
Everything you build with Iapetus — environments, configurations, code, data — is yours. The Iapetus software, brand, and site remain ours. Feedback you send us may be used to improve the product without obligation.
7. Disclaimers and liability
Iapetus is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claims arising out of these terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (during the free beta: zero). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, or affects statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived.
8. Termination
You can delete your account at any time by emailing support@iapetus.dev. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially breach these terms; where reasonable, we will warn you first. Licenses lapse at the end of their term; paid subscriptions stay active through the period already paid for.
9. Changes and law
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced to account holders by email before they take effect. These terms are governed by the law of our country of establishment, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. Questions: support@iapetus.dev.
